Color Work
Hair Dye & Highlights.
What does men’s hair color cost and how long does it take?
Hair dye and highlights at Adrian’s Barbershop cost $90 and take about two hours. The service covers consultation, application, processing, rinse, and a finish, and it is done with restraint: the goal is dimension that reads as your hair on a good day, not an obvious dye job. Common requests are highlights for depth on top, gray blending that softens rather than erases, and full color changes for anyone going noticeably lighter or darker. Two hours sounds long if you have only booked haircuts before, but most of it is processing time where the color is developing and nothing can be rushed. Pushing that window is exactly how color goes brassy or uneven. Arrive with clean, dry hair and no product for the best result. If you are also due for a cut, book the cut in the same visit so the color is applied to the finished shape.
Why it takes two hours
Only about twenty minutes of the appointment is application. The rest is processing, where the color develops and gets checked rather than left on a timer, plus the rinse, any toning, and a dry finish so you see the real result before you leave.
That window is not padding and it cannot be compressed. Pulling color early is how it comes out uneven, and leaving it late is how it goes brassy. If you only have an hour, book a different service and come back for this one.
Book the cut in the same visit
Color belongs on the finished shape, so the cut happens first.
Say you want both when you schedule so the time is blocked properly. The cut happens first, then the color is placed against what you are actually walking out with.
What to expect
- 1Consultation on target tone, contrast level, and maintenance appetite.
- 2Strand assessment, since previous color and hair condition change what is possible.
- 3Application, foils or freehand depending on the result you want.
- 4Processing time, checked throughout rather than left on a timer.
- 5Rinse, tone if needed, and a dry finish so you see the real result.
Aftercare
- No washing for the first 48 hours.
- Switch to a sulfate-free shampoo before your next wash.
- Keep it out of direct sun where you can, or wear a hat.
- Rebook a refresh at six to eight weeks for highlights, sooner for a full change.

Good for
- Adding dimension without an obvious color change
- Softening gray rather than covering it
- A defined change before an event or a new chapter
- Anyone who has been talked into too much color before
Questions
Before you book.
How should I prepare for a first color appointment?+
Come in with hair that is clean, dry, and free of wax or clay. A photo of the tone you are after helps more than a description does. Tell Adrian about any box dye or salon color from the past twelve months, since old pigment changes how the new color lifts.
Do you need to book color and a cut as separate appointments?+
No, and one visit is better. Book both together and say so when you schedule, so two hours plus the cut is blocked out. Color placed on the finished shape suits the cut you leave with.
How often do highlights need a refresh?+
Six to eight weeks for highlights, sooner if you went for a full color change. Arizona sun fades tone faster than most places, so a hat or a UV-protectant spray buys you a couple of extra weeks between appointments.
